TRANSCRIPT (translated)

Sparkling dark eyes he has got. And light blonde hair, ruffled up by the stormwind.
He lives with a princess at the Schloss (castle/palace).
In the kingdom where we are now, there dwells a princess, who is clever as girls are not otherwise!
One thousand newspapers has she read, and then forgotten them, so outrageously clever is she.
Then she threw them away and cried: "Next autumn, a wedding there'll be! And I want to have a husband who doesn't only stand looking dignified in the throne room! No! I want one who can speak well, one who knows how to answer, should I one evening just ask him if he loves me!"
The one who knew how to speak in the throne room as if he were at home, that one would the princess take as her husband. That one would be the prince of the kingdom.
There was a fine crowd! The men stood in line from the Schloss to the southern town-gate. None of them uttered a word!
Why?
On the road and on the street, they made fiery speeches. But when they entered the Schloss of the princess, and saw the guards in glistening silver, and on the staircase the lackeys in gold, and the illuminated halls, the sparkling mirrors, the radiant candles, and stood before the glittering royal throne, on which the clever princess sat, then they were left speechless. And mute. And stupid. And they gasped for air, and turned around, and left the throne, and the hall, and the Schloss.
And on the road or street, then they began to speak well again.
On the third evening, or on the seventh, there came a person without horse or carriage, directly to the Schloss a-walking. His eyes twinkled so dark, and his light blond hair was ruffled up by the stormwind.
He was carrying a knapsack on his back.
He came through the Schloss gate and said to the guards in silver and gold: "How tiresome, to stand for days and nights by the staircase steps of castles!" And he entered the hall, where the candles blazed and the Excellencies and Magnificencies carried large glass tureens... And his boots... they creaked so dreadfully loud!
But he didn't care. He didn't look to the right nor to the left.
He walked through the hall and stepped forward before the throne, on which the clever princess sat. And the throne was one single pearl, which was the size of a real spinning-wheel.
He didn't kneel down.
He didn't kneel down?
He didn't kneel down.
He remained standing?
He remained standing.
And did he become the prince?
He had not come to celebrate any wedding. He had only come to hear the clever princess's cleverness. And he found her great.
And she found him handsome.
She found him bright!
And now he lives at the Schloss, and he is a prince.
Was he chosen?
So did it stand in the newspaper.
Through the great promenade, into the Schloss park!
Do you see the Schloss?
It grows in the skyline.
Do you see the windows?
One thousand radiant lights.
They will be put out. One after the other is blown out.
The lights go out! The thousand windows are all of them black!
Where are we?
In the Rose-Red Silky Satin Hall.
Are the transparent flowers real?
No, they're artificial.
Yet they're scented.
Here goes the way...
Those were the dreams.
There were horses with fluttering manes, and lords and ladies with shining belts and flashing spurs!
Those were the dreams! They come and take the high and mighty ones' thoughts to the hunt.
Oh! Such splendour! The ceiling resembles a giant palm!
It's made of Venetian glass.
Where are we?
We are in the Silvery Bedchamber.
Does the prince sleep here?
The prince and his princess.
There stand two lilies... With stalks of gold!
The calyces are beds.
One calyx is white, and the other one red.
The princess dreams in white...
And in ruby red?
The prince.

Where the palms are of glass, and the lilies of gold.

There stopped before the gate a golden carriage. With a coachman, and servants, and riders! And two of them behind! The prince and the princess wished me good luck...
...my carriage, that, like the radiant sunshine, rolled over the unknown hills...
(in a dark forest, highwaymen) They knocked the coachman out, and they shot the servants and riders dead.
