LEAVES FROM THE VINE

This is one of those songs that bring me to tears. And one of those that have inspired me the most.
For those who don't know: it's a Fire Nation dirge, or threnody, for a young man killed in action.
My Jaimienne 100YW AU uses "Leaves from the Vine" left and right: several of the subsagas take their titles from verses of the song (Leaves from the Vine, Drifting in the Foam, From Branches Overgrown, A War That's Not Her Own [referring to Brienna's involvement in the 100YW], Drifting Slowly Down, Brave Soldier Boy...), and the song is, for instance, sung in tears by a young Lady Seisei when she learns that the young man she loves, her first fiancé Crown Prince Ryóga, has fallen upon a distant battlefield.
It's also on the Ringstetten playlist for a good reason.

Leaves from the vine
falling so slow
like fragile tiny shells
drifting in the foam...
Little soldier boy
come marching home...
Brave soldier boy
comes marching home...

Those leaves did grow
from branches overgrown
drifting slowly down
resting on the loam...
Little soldier boy
taken from home
forced to fight a war
that's not his own...

Leaves from the vine
falling so slow
like fragile tiny shells
drifting in the foam...
Little soldier boy says
"Carry me home"
Sleeping soldier boy
is carried home...
